The Ballad of Mabel Dodge
© 2004 Nancy K. Dillon & Michael R. Bristow
1) Mabel Dodge came to Santa Fe and then went North to Taos
She met Antonio, an Indian man, and lost her heart to chaos
And the rocks and hills, the cottonwoods and roses
Pinion smoke lying low across the valley, lying low
BRIDGE:
She went to find the mountain
In the waning days of winter
She seemed to know just what to do
Was like she'd always been there
She lost herself and found every
Mirage was a mirror
She woke one day to find out
That the desert air was clearer
2) Mabel Dodge saw between the lines
She could hear the words unspoken
Tony gave her the Medicine
And promises unbroken
And they built their house
On a hill above the village
Snow white clouds flying high above the valley, flying high!
